Opening hours for the fortress area
The fortress area is open every day from 08.00 to 21.00 in the summer season. In the winter season the fortress is open from 09.00 until sunset. The fortress is open as long as the flag is up. For special events, opening hours may be reduced or changed.
The donjon / museum is open every day in the months May-September.

Entrance fee
The entrance to the fortress area is free. Museums, events, restaurants and concerts may have other opening hours and fees.
How to get to Kristiansten Fortress?
The fortress is located in the centre of Trondheim, and you can see the distinctive donjon from most places in the city. From the city centre you can reach the fortress in just a few minutes walk. If you come by car, follow the signs on the main roads.
Parking
Paid parking in the parking lot right at the main entrance to the fortress. The first hour is free. The parking lot is signposed with spaces for disability certificates (free) and for motorcycles (free).

Toilets
There are open public toilets on the inner parts of fortress. The toilets are open during the fortress’ opening hours.
Accessibility
The accessibility for wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility are good. There is a WC for disabled guests in the restaurant.
Safety and availability
Kristiansten is a fortress with high walls. Some of them are not secured. Be careful when walking along the fortress walls, and keep a close eye on your children.
Show respect
Kristiansten Fortress is a protected national cultural monument and we ask everyone to show respect for the surroundings whit buldings, ruins, monuments and parks. Visitors are not allowed to remove parts of buildings, bricks, stones, timber or other loose objects from the fortress.
It is not allowed to climb on the cannons or the fortress walls. The lawns are there to be used. Be kind to our treees.
You may find that there is a wedding or other event talking place at the fortress. We ask you to pay attention and not disturb unnecessarily.
Waste
Throw waste in the litter bins and recycle if possible.
Bring the dog
All dogs must be leashed at all times.
Barbeque
Barbeque and open fire are prohibited.
Guided tours
The donjon / museum is staffed every day. Guided tours are offered for groups by the Association for Kristiansten Fortress and booked via tel. +47 900 34 362. See the association’s website for more information.
