Guided tours

Join us and get to know the more than 700-year long history of Akershus! Hear about the establishment of the medieval castle around the year 1300 and follow the development from castle to modern fortress during the 1600s. We tell about magnificent events such as royal tributes, but also enemy sieges are given attention. Hear of the many prisoners at Akershus languishing in their cells from the Middle Ages all the way down to 1950. Experience a gun turret from the 1500s with its thick walls and narrow cannon bays – many believe that a headless knight wanders restlessly around in the Stable yard. Join us down the deep underground passage that leads to the "King's Casemate", one of two preserved cannon positions from the fortress's operational phase.
